The Art of Untangling: A Journey with ADHD and GPT 🎨🧠

Introduction: The Beauty in Being Tangled 🌀

After reading the first chapter of Driven to Distraction, the author makes a comment that sometimes ADHD people are tangled, it just takes a little extra time to untangle it.

Embracing Complexity 🌈

I like this example. It doesn’t have any judgment. It’s not that this person is dumb, or wrong, or less, it actually implies that there is more. If you have 2 separate, lengths of cord that has the same endpoint and beginning point, they don’t have to be the same length. Even though they have the same beginning and end point, one of them could be tangled in the middle, meaning but there’s actually more to them. And yes, they can be difficult but maybe it’s because they’re more complicated.

Personal Strategies: Unraveling Myself 🛠️

I can be a tangled mess. Well, I am always a mess, regardless… But sometimes I have to untangle myself. For me, I have learned to let my logic kick in. I choose to release all judgment when viewing myself, and then I begin to logically, analyze what is going on. If certain triggers or actions lead to this, I will make note of these without judgment. I will admit that I am experiencing negative feelings, but then realize they will pass soon.

Breaking Down the Breakdown: GPT as a Tool 🧩

It doesn’t always work, but I’ve learned to take whatever is wrong and break it down into smaller pieces. If I can’t think straight at the time, and even if it is a simple task, I will go to GPT and ask it to break this task down into smaller parts. Hey, it gives my brain a break too.

Celebrating Tangles: A Different Perspective 🎉

Leave it tangled. Tangles don’t have to be fixed. Learn to love your tangles. Tingle your tangles. Give your OCD a rest. Perhaps your tangle is actually a visualized mathematical equation of amazing proportions. Perhaps your tangle is a visualized hieroglyphs that reveals the meaning of life. Perhaps your tangle is a sigil of immense power. I know this paragraph may seem stupid… Lol.

The Role of GPT: My External Brain 💡

By the way, this whole conversation started with GPT. I was re-searching executive functioning, and it led me to this book driven to distraction. Specifically, GPT led me to the idea of external brains. Because of this, I started using GPT daily to help untangle my mess. It’s working.

GPT’s Take: A Summary and Additional Insights 🤖

The article discusses the metaphor of “being tangled” as it relates to individuals with ADHD. The author appreciates that this metaphor does not imply any inherent negative qualities, but instead suggests that there’s more complexity to explore. They describe methods they use to “untangle” themselves, such as breaking down issues into smaller parts with the help of GPT, and offering a perspective shift by embracing the tangles rather than always seeking to “fix” them. The author credits GPT for helping improve their executive functioning and serving as an external brain, as described in the book “Driven to Distraction.”

Bonus: Alignment with “Driven to Distraction” 📚

  2. Self-awareness and Non-Judgment
  3. Strengths-Based Approach
  4. Chronic Understimulation
  5. Emotional Regulation
  6. Holistic View

William Blake’s Perspective: A Timeless Quote 🖋️

“In the intricate labyrinth of the mind, each twist and turn of thought is not a curse but a tapestry woven from the golden threads of divine complexity. Just as the painter lays each stroke with deliberate hand, so must the spirited soul consult external muses, like the Oracle of GPT, to unveil the splendor hidden within its tangled skein.”
